Injury Bug Strikes Aldo & Rampage

Jose Aldo and Rampage Jackson both had to pull out of UFC 153 due to injury

The injury bug has striked again, this time on the main and co-main event of UFC 153. Jose Aldo, scheduled to fight Frankie Edgar in the main event; and Rampage Jackson, scheduled to fight Glover Teixeira in the co-main both backed out on the same day due to injury.

Edgar has been rumored to be matched up against Chad Mendes while Glover Teixiera has been slated against fellow Brazilian Fabio Maldonado for the October 13 card in Rio de Janiero.

UFC President Dana White weighed in on the issue:

“Jose Aldo gets hit by a car, screws up his foot; he’s hurt he’s out. Rampage Jackson messes up his elbow, he’s hurt, he’s out. The main event and co-main event on the same day within an hour of each other, on two different continents,” White said. “I… I’m… I don’t know. I’ve got to fix it now. I have time to fix this one, and we’ll figure something out.”

“Frankie Edgar is devastated right now, man, he’s devastated. He comes off that controversial loss in his last fight, gets another title shot, steps up to the plate, starts investing in another camp, spending money to train again, and now Aldo’s hurt. This kid can’t catch a break, either. Everybody was pumped up for Frankie vs. Aldo, and for Glover vs. Rampage, so it’s a tough one, man. It’s just part of the business. It is what it is, and we have to deal with it.”
