Machida Would Fight GSP at Middleweight

Lyoto Machida has his eyes on the current welterweight champ

Lyoto Machida, like his teammate and friend Anderson Silva is voicing interest in a fight against 170-lb. champion Georges St-Pierre. In what would be a spectactular karate match-up, Lyoto Machida let is be known that if the fight was available at 185-lbs. the Shotokan Karate black belt would fight St-Pierre, who is a black belt in Kyokushin Karate.

But first thing’s first. George St-Pierre has a November scrap against interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit while Lyoto Machida (according to Dana White) will be fighting Dan Henderson next at 205-lbs. Machida also has a injury to recover from, one which he has said he’s close to being over. Addressing his injury, he told the media, “I will be ready to re-start in ten days to fight in December, who knows?”

Asked about a fight against St-Pierre, he was quoted as saying:

“(GSP) would be an interesting karate duel but I don’t know at what weight we would do it. If it is at 185lbs, I will go for it,”
