Machida vs. Henderson Slated for UFC 156
It’s been rumored for months, and now it’s finally official. Top 205-pounders Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida will face eachother in February at UFC 156. In what is likely to be a light heavyweight title eliminator fight, the two men will fight on Super Bowl Weekend in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 2nd.
Henderson (29-8, 6-2 UFC) looks to get back into a fight with Jon Jones, which he had to pull out of a couple months back last minute due to an injury. The injury led to a domino effect that eventually made UFC 151 the only cancelled event in UFC history. Chael Sonnen, now scheduled to fight Jones, was the only man to step up and offer to fight Jones. Jones declined and the bout was cancelled.
Lyoto Machida (18-3, 10-3 UFC) on the other hand, has already fought the champion Jones in a scrap that left Machida choked unconscious. Although Jones seemed to have issues with Machida’s striking in the first round, the champion eventually solved the puzzle and overcame the Brazilian.
The UFC has yet to confirm, but Dan Henderson made the announcement on “MMA Uncensored Live” on Spike TV on Thursday.
UFC 156 will be headlined by the featherweight championship fight featuring Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo. This fight will likely be the co-main event.
